About:China Visa Fees

Hi, I'm an american that accidentally overstayed my F visa by 20 days back in december. They told me I needed to get a temporary residence permit before I could leave (which I didn't have), and I had a lot of difficulty getting it. So anyway, by the time I had the temporary residence permit and the "temporary exit visa" (which was the 1 page "requested to leave china within 10 days" thing), it had been about 3 months.

Well, now my company wants me to get a Z visa and work permit to move over there permanently. I tried to do this in Hong Kong immediately after leaving China but the HK consul told me I can't apply there and must go back to the USA to apply.

Should I just go to the consulate here in LA and apply? Will I be denied a Z visa because of this? What can I do to ensure that I get my Z visa?

Yes, you have to go to the consulate in Los Angeles to apply for Z visa, I hear that Hong Kong won't issue China Z visa to aliens who don't reside in Hong Kong. I don't think you will denied a Z visa if you can provide all requirements. You have obtained the temporary residence permit and the temporay exit visa, which clears the record of overstay

Well, Hong Kong granted the visa to 3 other foreigners in my office already this year...
