About:Chinese Consulate in Sydney

My husband is Chinese and I South African. We are both Australian Permanent residents and expecting our first child. My husband would like for our child to have a Chinese passport. If the baby is born in Australia to a western mother, can he/she apply for a Chinese passport. And if so, can the baby travel on my South African passport for a while and then apply for a Chinese passport at a later stage?

It will be best if u will apply ur baby with australian passport and just get chinese visa if u are planning to go china. It will be more convinient that way. Since both of u are laready australians.

Your baby can't apply for a Chinese passport, according to Chinese Nationality Law, if one baby is born in foreign country, one parent is Chinese citizen and gain the premanent residence in the foreign country, the baby gains the foreign nationality once he/she is born. If you really want your baby to have a China nationality, you have to give birth in China.
