Can you buy the card from a machine or do you have to buy the card from the ticket office?  I am arriving at the shanghai railway station and want to purchase one, but do not speak Chinese very well.

Hi, You need to buy the card from the ticket office. The booking clerk may understand English. Do not worry much about it. You can also ask somebody to help you since there are many people who can speak English in nowadays in Shanghai.
