About:Tiananmen Square

I was just in Beijing Oct 4 - 10th, 2010. In Tiananmen Square was two HUGE screens showing a big military parade. In between these two screens is a huge photo of someone. I can't remember the name. Can you tell me who this is and if these two big screens and photo are always in the Square. All the photos I see over the internet do not show them.

Hi, the photo is of Sun Yat-sen, in Chinese 孙中山. They are all permanently located at Tiananmen Square.

Henry, thanks for your quick response. I googled the name you replied and read about him but I thought on our tour we had been told he was not liked by China people versus Mao Zedong who was liked a lot and whos picture is on the Gate of the Forbidden City. Also, during our tour they showed a video on the big screens on both sides of Sun Yat-sen huge photo. I want to say that the video being shown was a huge parade with the military and someone riding in a car. Maybe the new President maybe celebrating the 50 years of the New Republic of China? Do you know for sure what the video would be playing as of Oct 5, 2010

Hi Mr. Debe, Sun Yat-sun is also a respectable revolutionist in China. Chairman Mao is the person who lead Chinese people founded the People's Republic of China, that's why he got more respectation from people. Sun and Mao are great fugures of different times. Sun is said to be the forerunner of China's recolution. The military parade is the celebration of the 60th years of P.R. China, the celebration was held last year on 1st, October.
