About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I am a United States citizen and will be making a trip to Mongolia with my Phillippines citizen friend. We are both living and working in Hong Kong and have Hong Kong work visas. We are flying into Beijing airport on Air China but will take MIAT (mongolian airliner) into and out of Mongolia. We will be transiting in Beijing for around 4 hours.

I have two inquiries: 1) do we need to apply for double entry transit visas for china? I am aware that you don't need a visa if you are at the airport for less than 24 hours, are passing through china, but you have to be on an "international" airliner -- does MIAT airlines count as an international airline?

2) if we do in fact need to apply for a transit visa, i've noticed that one of the requirements is a visa of the final destination country. however, according to visa laws for US and Philippines citizens to Mongolia, we do not need visas for Mongolia as we will be there for shorter than 14 days. So we do not have a visa for Mongolia as visas are not required for us. Or does "final destination" refer to our "home" destination, that is, Hong Kong, of which we both have work visas? Thanks for your help!

1) I don't think you need a transit visa for China, will you transit Beijing airport for you two time, the stopover for each time is around 4 hours? If you stay at the airport during the 4 hours stopover, no visa is required.

2) I know that USA citizens and Filipino don't need a visa to Mongolia for less than 14 days visit, the flight tickets from Hk to Beijing, beijing to Mongolia, Mongolia to Beijing, Beijing to Hk are required, the Hk work visa are also required for your transit in Beijing which can prove that you truly transit Beijing.

thank you for your response mr. johnnash,

Yes we will only be in the beijing airport for around 4 hours, however the thing that gets to me is that the Chinese embassy website states that we need to hold tickets on an "international" airliner. MIAT is a small mongolian airline that does domestic flights to mongolia, and sometimes to china and korea. does it count as an international airliner?

according to your statement, it's true that we will worry about the transit visa exemption rules, Mongolian airline is not an international flights. to ensure the success of your trip, you'd better apply for a double-entry transit visa in Hong Kong.
