About:Visa Policy of China

I have a pretty uncommon issue - I'm living in Hong Kong but leaving soon. I'm a dual US and Canadian citizen. I'm currently in HK on my American passport and I have a multi-entry China visa right now that lets me stay for 30 days at a time. I'm planning a long trip that should last longer than 90 days and I was told that I can apply for a single entry visa with my Canadian passport with a 60 or 90 day stay, which would work for my trip. (and I need the multi-entry visa in my US passport for later, so that must remain valid)

My question is, will applying for a visa with my Canadian passport raise any red flags at the consulate here since they've issued me a visa already as an American? I know that if I have to enter and exit China with the same passport/visa which is fine - I just want to know if applying for the visa will be problematic.

FYI I applied at another agency with my Canadian passport, wasn't a problem at all. I now have two visas with overlapping validity in two different passports.

I think you may only apply for one visa either with your US passport or with your Canadian passport, but you can't apply for two visas at a time with your two passports.
