About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

Hi there,

Can you help me please?

I am going to Shanghai on business with my present company in June. My last day with this company will be in Shanghai and then I will be free to do what I want in China. I have secured a job teaching English at a University in Nanjing in September and so in July and August I plan to take a Mandarin Course in Beijing. I do not plan/want to come back to the UK to organise the Z-visa for the teaching job, could I arrange the Z visa in Hong Kong in September? It is not clear what the policy is one this, I really hope I do not have to return to the UK. Also what visa do you reccommend I should get for the business trip and the Mandarin course in the Summer?

Many thanks in advance!

Lucy

You can apply for a Business Visa and go to Shanghai with your present company, then go to the Exit & Enter Department under Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau to apply for a Business Visa (F visa)which can be issued to aliens coming to China for less than 6 months study.

Howver, the admission letter from the Mandarin Course school and an original Visa Notification issued by the Chinese government or organizations authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs are required.

You can have a try to apply for tourist visa (L visa)at the exit & enter department in Shanghai.

Your your employer, the university in Nanjing is reputable, it can help you to obtain a Z visa within China, otherwise, you have to apply for it in Hong Kong or return to UK.

Dear Mr James,

Thanks for your helpful answer. I've been reading advice on the internet and it seems that it is difficult for foreigners to get a Z-visa from Hong Kong. Are you absolutely sure that I can do this from there?

Many thanks
Lucy
