About:How to Choose China Train Ticket Types?

Hello, I read in this section, on note 1, that "The train conductor will keep the ticket for you and give you a card as a certificate instead. After you reach your destination, you need to change your ticket back." If you get off at a station which is not the final destination of the train, how do you proceed? (do you have to go at a precise location in the train before getting off or is someone coming to give you back your ticket before the train stops? what happens if you don't get back your ticket? if you take several trains during your trip, are they on separate tickets? Can it happen also that the train conductor ask to see your passport or ask to keep it with the ticket until your destination?"
Many thanks in advance for any answer

Hello MRs. Casta

YEs, you have to change your ticket back. The train conductor will seek you about half an hour before the train arrives at your destination (even if it is not th eend of the train route). He/she needs to get the chip they gave you, so you will get your ticket back, sure.

AS far as I know, you must have a different ticket for every train, and purchase it at the station tyou are going to depart. In summer time there is normally no problem doing this. Go buy your departure ticket as soon as you arrive (we always did so). Unless you are travelling during Chinese New Year, or the Golden weeks at the beginning of May and October, there should be no problem. During these "peak" weeks avoid trains if you can: they are CROWDED. Normally the train conductor will never ask for your passport, much less take it.

Many thanks for your answer, Mr Joe.
I just have a further question on the 1st May holiday. Do people travel massively only from that date until the end of the holiday or do they start a few days before (in this case 1 day before or rather a week before?).
Many thanks for a new answer on that point.
