About:Chinese Zodiac

I was born on Jan. 8th, 1989 but whenever I look up my zodiac online on any horoscope website it says that I'm a dragan but 1989 is for snake. I have read both the snake and the dragon personality discription and I feel I fit more with the dragon. I am confuse because my sister who is 11 months and 21 days older than me was born in the year of the dragon (1988) but when I put her's in it says she's a rabbit. For many years I felt like I was reading somebody else's horoscope and zodiac sign until recently I keep getting Dragon as my sign. Nobody believes me and I do feel bad a little because I feel like I finally found who I really am after reading the dragon's but everybody doubt me. For once and for all am I a dragon or snake?

Hello, Mrs.Yang
You have confused for a long time and searched for a long time. Do you know that there is still a lunar year in China? I believe that you are born on Jan.8, 1989(snake year) according to Chinese solar year, which is Dec.1, 1988(dragon year) according to Chinese lunar year. The whole zodiac thing is based on Chinese lunar year, so you find you are more like a dragon than a snake when reading personality description. It is the same case with your sister.
You know the Spring Festival in China? It is the first day of the next lunar year. So if you are before the Spring Festival of that year, you actually fall on the first year.

How can I explain it clear to you? See, there are two calenders in China, one is solar calender and the other is lunar calender. According to the solar calender, your birthday is Jan.8, 1989, but according to the lunar calendar, it becomes to Dec.1, 1988. You are confused about your sign as you belong to different year according to different calender.
