About:Chengdu Travel

I hope to visit Chengdu on 18th August, but only for a day. We hope to see the pandas. Is it necessary to stay overnight due to the distance of the panda reserve(s) from the airport? If so, is there anywhere good to stay nearby?

We head out to Xi'an at the latest on 19th August. Potentially we could arrive in Chengdu on 17th August if there is a lot to see there and the accommodation is reasonable, then leave on the evening of the 18th or 19th.

Many thanks for your help!

No need to stay nearby the panda reserve center. If you take a taxi from airport directly, it costs about 1.5~2 hours on the way and the fare is about 100RMB for one trip. So, you could return to the downtown area in the afternoon to check-in a hotel.

You could find some chain hostels at reasonable price in Chengdu, such as Jinjiang Inn (no more than 200RMB/night).

Yes, there are lots of interesting places in Chengdu; however, since you just have one day, it is suggested that you travel in the city area. You could go to Jinli Street, the Thatched Cottage of Dufu and the Wuhou Memorial Temple. Don't forget the delicous Chengdu snacks!
