About:Changchun

I'm a Malaysian and soon would be workng in Hong Kong and plan to bring my mother with me as well. Only issue here is that my mother is a malaysian but holding a brown passport/Surat Akuan Pengenalan.

The brown passport was issued to her because she do not have the citizenship paper (born before 1957) eventhough she have the malaysian birth certificate.

Question: Can she travel to Hong Kong and stay with me for at least 90 days without a visa?

Many thanks/Bhaskar

So your mother's passport is different from yours. She doesn't have the ordinary Malaysian passport, right? I am afraid that your mother can not enjoy the visa-free stay of 90 days in Hong Kong.

Hi Mrs.Chan, thanks for your valuable response. Does this mean that she need to apply for a visa? Have you come across similar situation before and what was the workaround or steps to go through? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. TQ/Bhaskar

Mr Baskaran, I didn't come across a similar situation. Well, I assume your mother can get a visa for Hong Kong with a brown passport. Anyway, just send the application to the Immigration Department of HK SAR or enquire about the visa requirements on Malaysians with brown passport holders.
