Clarification on Visa Requirements for My Shanghai–Japan Cruise
Hi there,
I hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out because I want to make sure I fully understand the visa requirements for my upcoming trip, and I’d be really grateful if you could help me with a few clarifications.
Here are my complete travel details so you can see the full picture:

I’m a Philippine passport holder, and I want to make sure I follow the correct visa process. I understand that China has a 24‑hour transit rule for some travelers, and since both of my stays in Shanghai are under 24 hours each, I’m hoping to check if this rule might apply in my situation or if it only applies to certain types of transit passengers.
Since I’ll be:
Arriving in Shanghai, then boarding the cruise the same day, and
Returning to Shanghai after the cruise, then catching my flight home within the same 24‑hour window,
I just want to confirm whether the 24‑hour transit without visa option is possible for someone in my itinerary, or if I should still apply for a standard Tourist (L) Visa.
It would mean a lot if you could help clarify:
Whether my cruise is part of any visa‑free cruise arrangement, and
Whether the 24‑hour rule applies to cases like mine, or
If I should go ahead and secure a visa before my trip.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and guide me. I really appreciate your help, and I just want to make sure everything is sorted so I can travel without any problems.
Best regards,
Alex
