About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling from US to Shanghai - Japan - Shanghai - US

Planning to travel to Shanghai from LA, stay there for 2 nights then to Japan for a week, back to Shanghai for another 3 nights then back to LA.

Is that qualified for 144 hour visa-free transit ?

I also want to know the answer to this question. Basically, the question is are you permitted to use the '144 hour transit without a visa' multiple times so long as the before and after locations from entering mainland China are different countries. Could somebody please answer this?

There are no limits on frequency of use, or length of time in the third country.

This is what I am doing except from the Uk and one night in Shanghai instead of two and was advised I could. Still a bit daunting though.
