Eligibilty for 240 Hour Transit Visa to China

My wife, a US citizen, will travel from Hawaii to Jakarta, Indonesia in April. She will stay two days in Jakarta and then join a tour group, with some friends, for ten days in China. The travel from Jakarta via Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is being arranged by the tour operator (in Jakarta). My wife will return with the tour group, via Kuala Lumpur, to Jakarta. She will stay in Jakarta for several days and then return to Hawaii. The travel, Hawaii and return is a separate, round trip, ticket, paid separately. Is she eligible for the transit visa, to be issued upon arrival in China art Guiyang? Aloha Karl

So her travel route is like Hawaii - Jakarta - transit in Kuala Lumpur - China 10 days group tour - Kuala Lumpur transit - several days in Jakarta - Hawaii? Sorry that she is not eligible for the 240h visa free transit as the country before and after China is the same Kuala Lumpur (transit also counts) which will be considered a round trip, not an international transit route for 240. So she needs a visa. Is it possible for her to fly from China to Jakarta directly with no transit or with a transit in other countries, not Malaysia? That way she will qualify for the 240.

You can see the specific rules of 240 on this page: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/tour/visa/free-transit-144-hours.htm
