UK passport holders inc HKID for VOA

Want to travel to Shenzhen from HK. We all have UK passports but one also has HKID and will enter HK using this (so no white slip from HK immigration).

Assume the 5 day VOA would not be an issue? Any tips for travelling on a public holiday?

UK citizens can travel to Shenzhen by obtaining Shenzhen 5 day visa on arrival at Lo Wu / Luohu, Huanggang and Shekou border crossings. No need to do anything ahead of your travel. The price is 130 CNY and you can pay by your bank card, debit and credit (practically all the overseas cards are accepted) or by Chinese cash.

Your companion with HKID has to have a valid Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Home Return Permit) in order to cross the border and enter into mainland China. She/he cannot apply for a Chinese visa. If your companion with HKID is just a resident and not a Chinese citizen of Hong Kong, she/he will cross the same procedure as you do as far as the mainland Chinese immigration authorities are concerned. There are no any specific tips, but if I were you I would maybe take a boat from Hong Kong to Shekou to reduce the effect of possible queues due to public holiday crowded situation. When you are done with your visit to Shenzhen you can return to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing and any mean of transport, high speed train included. Have a nice visit to Shenzhen.
