About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hello, I am travelling from UK to Beijing, Changsha to Hanoi, Hanoi to Uk.

Can the flight back to the UK from Hanoi transfer in Shanghai? Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, it definitely can. This is perfectly allowed and it is unrelated to your previous transit through China. Your first segment is done and considered as used when you take your flight from Changsha to Hanoi. After your stay in Hanoi (Vietnam in general) you are allowed to enjoy the second visa free transit in the way as you have presented - via Shanghai. Both of your transits can last up to 240 hours visa free on the Chinese territory. Have a nice journey.
