About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hanoi - Hunan - Chongqing - Beijing - Japan - Hanoi

Hi, Vietnam has just been added to 240-hour visa free transit list so can you please help me to clarify these questions:
1. Can I enter in one of 65 open ports available then leave at another? For example: enter Hunan then travel across Chongqing then fly out of Beijing to Japan. If yes, can I take high-speed trains and domestic flights without any problems?
2. Can I buy seperate flight ticket from different airlines for the routes like Hanoi-Chongqing (AirChina) and Beijing-Japan (CSA) or same airline but arrival and departure dates will be like 10 days apart because for the same airline the layover is normally less than 24 hours.

This is really a great news that Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan have been added to 240 hour visa free transit eligible countries. Here are the answers to your inquiries:

1. Yes, you can definitely enter Hunan, travel to Chongqing and then to Beijing. When traveling on 240 hour visa free transit you are definitely allowed to cross the provincial boundaries and to use two different ports for your entry and your exit from China. This is all fine and permitted. Also, you can definitely take domestic trains and flights. You should just be aware that you will be, almost certainly, asked to present your travel itinerary within China so, please, print out your flight and train tickets and your hotel booking confirmations. It is by far the best to have all those details printed out and at hand because you will be asked to present them.
2. Yes, you can definitely book two separate and unrelated tickets for totally unrelated airlines. This is your right and there is no any single obstacle to do that. You should just remember to print them out.
