About:Visa on Arrival

VOA approval for US citizen

Planning on going to shenzen for the day and just wanted you to know if I qualify for the VOA as a US passport holder

Yes, you definitely qualify for such a trip. The recommendation is to use Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing where you will perform all the formalities. The price is 130 CNY and when filling out an arrival card you will not write down an address where you will stay in China because you will not have one, but you will just write down - day trip. Have a nice visit to Shenzhen.
