About:China Visa-free Policy

Dual National extending stay

I’m working in China with my British passport, Z-VISA. I also have an Irish passport. At the end of my Z-VISA, would I need to leave China and then re-enter with Irish passport for 30-days VISA free, or could I get my passport stamped within China without having to leave?

Also, are these policies being extended into 2026?

Thanks!

China does not recognize dual nationality, Josh, so it’s risky to reenter with your Irish passport. Even if you enter successfully, you are not allowed to conduct work activities. You are advised to apply for an extension 1 – 2 months before the expiration of your Z visa for a legal stay.

The visa-free policy is likely to be extended to 2026, although no official news has been released.
