About:Visa on Arrival

UK citizens (party of 3) travelling from Manchester UK to Shenzhen Baoan for business for 4 days

I believe the 5 days visitor Visa is what we require, is this correct?
Is it possible to arrange this in advance or can it only be obtained upon arrival to the airport?

Nathan, unfortunately, this is impossible because there is no visa office at Shenzhen airport. You have two solutions:

1. To obtain a Chinese visa in advance

2. To use 240 hour visa free transit by extending your journey into Hong Kong. If you decide for the latter, you will have to buy a high speed train ticket for Hong Kong before your departure from UK because you will be asked to present it in UK at the time of your check-in and also upon your landing in Shenzhen.. You can use Futian station in Shenzhen to reach Hong Kong West Kowloon station.

It would be ideal to use one later afternoon for this formality. For example, you can buy that train ticket for 18:00, arrive in Hong Kong, formally enter Hong Kong and return back to Shenzhen by high speed train for a second 240 hour visa free transit. Please, just have in mind that the formalities at Hong Kong West Kowloon station take roughly 60 minutes when you travel from mainland China to Hong Kong and roughly 90 - 120 minutes when you travel from Hong Kong to Shenzhen (Futian station). Both Hong Kong and mainland China immigration authorities are co-located at the same premises at Hong Kong West Kowloon station. With this move and about 4 hours lost in the late afternoon, you will enjoy 240 hour visa free transit twice and you do not need any kind of visa. Hope this helps.
