About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US-Beijing-HK

I plan to fly from USA to Beijing, stay for a few days, then take a train to Guangzhou/Shenzhen, stay a few days, then take a train to Hong Kong. Would this qualify for the 240 visa free transit?

Amy, yes, your itinerary is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Beside taking a train from Beijing to Guangzhou or Shenzhen, you can also think of taking a domestic flight because the distances are significant. In any case, you should have in mind that you will have to buy your train ticket to Hong Kong even before your board the plane toward mainland China (Beijing). You will be asked to present one in both US and upon your landing in Beijing. It is advisable to print out that train booking confirmation in order to expedite the relevant procedures. One words of warning. Your flight from US to Beijing is not allowed to have a layover in Hong Kong immediately before Beijing. Have a nice visit to China.
