Can a U.S. citizen travel to China for up to 30 days without a visa until Dec 31, 2026?

Sorry, Americans need a visa for such a long stay in China. If you stay for less than 10 days, the 240h visa-free transit avoids the visa application, for reference: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/tour/visa/free-transit-144-hours.htm

Daniel, thanks for the answer. Further question. I have planned to travel a few countries in Asia from mid-September to mid-November in 2026 starting from the U.S. Can I add Hong Kong (taking a train) to Shenzhen and then fly back to the U.S. using the 240-hr visa free?

If you fly from Shenzhen to US without a transit in HK (other cities acceptable), then you can use the 240h free transit.
