Defacto relationship in a S1 visa?

I've been in a relationship for 10+ years, but we're not married; instead we have a de-facto relationship. If I got a job in China (Z visa, etc), would my partner be able to join me with a S1 visa? Or is it mandatory to have some marriage certification?
