About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transiting multiple Chinese airports

I am travelling from NZ to UK via Guangzhou. The airline has rescheduled my Guangzhou flight to UK delaying by 2 days. I need to be back in the UK. The only other Guangzhou to UK flights go via Beijing. They would exit the country within 24hrs of landing in China. Would I need a visa?

No, you do not need any kind of visa and your transit through China will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit scheme. It is just important to correctly count your entire transit time in China. It starts with your scheduled arrival time in Guangzhou and ends with your scheduled departure time from Beijing. So, if the entire transit time, based on such a calculation, is still shorter than 24 hours, you are definitely and undeniably eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa.

When you land in Guangzhou, the first thing that you will do is to approach 24/144 hour visa free transit where you will apply for a temporary entry permit because your next flight to Beijing will be a domestic one. Here you will present your flight tickets. After a short check you will be granted a permit and then you will head to the immigration and to the gate for your flight to Beijing.

Upon landing in Beijing you will just cross the exit immigration and head to your flight to UK. Basically, this is it. I hope your total transit time, as explained, is shorter than 24 hours and if this is the case, I wish you a pleasant journey.
