No, you are not required a visa. But if you leave the airport in the middle of the layover, a 24h temporary entry permit is needed, which can be applied at the border inspection counter.

Ryder, you do not need any kind of visa because your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. Since you have a long layover in Guangzhou you will probably want to exit the airport and to spend some time in the city. If I am correct, the first thing upon your landing in Guangzhou will be to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit where you will apply for a temporary entry permit in order to be allowed to exit the airport. Here you will present your flight tickets. Upon a short check, you will be granted a permit and you will be able to exit the airport. You should be just aware that the issuing of a permit is based on absolute discretion of the immigration authorities on the day, so there is also a possibility that you are denied a permit. However, you still do not need a visa, but you will wait your transit time airside in the transit area of the airport. Hopefully, that will not be the case. In the end, I would like to emphasize that Guangzhou and Oman do not have a direct air connection, so you will probably have some other destination immediately after Guangzhou. Hopefully not in China because that would surpass 24 hours that are allowed for a transit. Have a nice journey.
