About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Question:

Hi I’m travelling to Istanbul via Chengdu’s Tianfu international airport , we have a 20hrs layover in chengdu . I was planning to go out of the airport and see the pandas and not just stay at the airport. Is that okay ? Do I need a visa ? Is there something specific that we need to do ?We are Australian citizens and when we went to Shanghai in the past and we did not needed a visa . Please let me know thanks

Caroline, your situation is very simple. You do not need a visa to enter China, so you will just take an arrival card that will be dispensed on board the plane before your landing in Chengdu and you will fill it out. When you land, you will just proceed to the immigration with your passport and your filled out arrival card. You will be definitely allowed to exit the airport and you can proceed in any direction you want. Have a nice stay in Chengdu.
