About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Question from travel with Visa-Free Transit

I am a U.S. citizen currently visiting family in Hong Kong. My family and I plan to enter Mainland China from Macau via Zhuhai, travel within Guangdong (Shenzhen and Huizhou), and then exit to Hong Kong by high-speed rail. Would this be eligible for the 240-hour visa-free transit?

Yes, it definitely would. You itinerary is excellent example how to use 240 hour visa free transit for a very convenient trip using two eligible territories - Macau and Hong Kong. Two details to explain:

1. You can enter mainland China (by using Zhuhai as entry point) by taking Hengqin border crossing (located in the southern part of Macau). You can cross the border on foot, and proceed to take a taxi or a train from Hengqin train station in order to reach Zhuhai train station. You do not need tickets bought in advance for Hengqin to Zhuhai train station since it is operated as a kind of (sub)urban train line. Please, just do not use Gongbei border crossing because this one is not eligible for 240 hour visa free transit crossings.
2. Before your departure from Macau toward mainland China you will have to buy your train ticket from Guangzhou/Shenzhen/Huizhou (you will decide) to Hong Kong West Kowloon station because you will be asked to present it at Hengqin border crossing.

Have a nice visit to China.
