5 day VOA - Travel into Shenzhen by car

I have UK passport - Hong Kong friend is driving by car to Shenzhen - am I able to apply for VOA at checkpoint?

Yes, you can do that, but have in mind that you should then use Huanggang border crossing and not any other. Please, have in mind that you will have to pay 130 CNY fee for a visa in cashless form, i.e. paid by card.
