About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 Hour Visa

Hi! I came to China with a single entry visa but my flight back home (to Canada) exceeds my maximum stay duration. I was thinking of flying to Hongkong before I reach my maximum stay duration, and then flying back to Beijing to catch my flight back home. My route would then be beijing - hong kong - beijing - korea - canada. Would I be eligible for a 24 hour visa free transit? The flight from hongkong to beijing would be a separate flight, and then I would need to claim luggage and check in for my other flight from beijing to canada (with a layover in korea). Is this okay to do?

Of course you can do that. If you are not a Canadian citizen you will rely on 24 hour visa free transit, but if you are a Canadian citizen you can use 144 hour visa free transit.

In other words, when your single entry visa expires, you will exit mainland China on its last day of validity toward one of several convenient locations and it does not have to be Hong Kong. You can maybe find cheaper flights to more closer destinations like Taiwan or southern part of Japan like Fukuoka. OK, I leave that part to you, but you cannot choose South Korea for this purpose because you will travel to South Korea after Beijing toward Canada. So, Japan, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong are the most logical choices for this purpose.

It is enough, literally speaking, that you exit toward those places just for an hour and return back to enjoy 24/144 hour visa free transit in Beijing area. Separate tickets are acceptable and there is no any issue with such an arrangement.

You can proceed with your travel plan with absolute peace of mind and I wish you to enjoy your overall journey in the best way possible.
