About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does layover count?

Hi,

Does the following itinerary qualify for the 10 day visa free transit:

US to Shanghai (1-stop flight with 12 hour layover in S. Korea. My plan is do a quick shopping trip in Seoul ), and from Shanghai back to US?

Thanks

The main and essential rule of 240 hour visa free transit requires that the immediate points before and after your mainland China visit are located in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). So, it is only the immediate points that matter. If you have properly presented your itinerary, your immediate point before mainland China will be South Korea and after mainland China it will be US. If this is the case and your flight from Shanghai to US does not stop again in South Korea, your itinerary is definitely and without any doubt eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Have a wonderful journey.
