About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Beijing TWOT visa

Hi, I'm a New Zealand passport holder living in France and travelling from France to NZ with a 10 hr layover in Beijing this weekend. I've booked a room at the airport hotel (non airside). I understand I will need the TWOT. I've never transited Beijing airport, am travelling alone and I'm wondering how difficult it is to find the place to get the TWOT sticker on my passport or is this done at the usual immigration station. Many thanks.

Natalie, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. This is the most important detail. Also, 24 hour visa free transit is not something you get, but this is your status while you are in transit in mainland China.

So, the real thing you will have to get in order to exit the airport is a temporary entry permit. You will apply for one, for free, at the transit counter of the Beijing airport. It is very visible and if you do not see it, you will just ask. So, you will present your flight tickets and your accommodation booking confirmation and after a short check you will be granted a permit. After a permit is granted, you will proceed toward exit immigration and then toward your hotel. In other words, transit counter and immigration are not exactly on the same place.
