About:Visa on Arrival

I traveled to China via Hongkong but would like to visit Shenzen on a 5 day visa. My Chinese visa expired before my arrival in Hongkong. I was not made aware of this in South Africa. Do I qualify for the 5 day visa?

Technically and formally, South African citizens are eligible for 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival, but they are somewhat rare occurrence at the border, so we cannot tell you precisely about the success rate of your particular citizenship. In any case, you have expired Chinese visa in your passport and that is a huge plus, so if I were I would definitely apply for a Shenzhen VOA. You are advised to arrive at Lo Wu border crossing even before 09:00 in order to beat the crowd, although it is possible that some queue will be already in place. If you want to travel to Shenzhen in a more elegant way, then a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou port in Shenzhen is a solution. If you decide for this options, you should take the first ferry from Hong Kong.
