Hello,

I am flying to New Zealand in December with a layover in Shanghai for 12 or so hours, can I leave the Airport using the temporary entry permit and explore the city?

Yes, you can. This is what will you do upon landing in Shanghai:

- Fill out an arrival card and tick the box on the arrival card where it is written - transit
- Perform a fingerprinting at automatic fingerprinting machine and take a receipt
- Approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will present arrival card, fingerprinting receipt and your flight tickets. After a short check you will receive a temporary entry permit that will allow you to exit the airport.
- Head to the immigration and proceed toward the city to enjoy your time on your own.

Have a nice visit to Shanghai.
