hello, Planning a 1 day trip from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, is it possible for a South African passport holder to get a Visa on Arrival?

Well, it is true that the citizens of South Africa are technically and formally eligible for Shenzhen 5 day visa on arrival, but their success rate results in a mixed bag. In other words, you can proceed and apply for Shenzhen 5 day visa on arrival, but you should count on possibility to be refused to grant you a visa. In that case you will return to Hong Kong and the good detail is that the citizens of South Africa do not need a visa for Hong Kong. If I were you I would obtain a Chinese visa in advance while in Hong Kong or postpone my visit to Shenzhen. Hope this helps.
