No, unfortunately not. The only way how to use any visa free transit scheme for Guangdong province is to fly into it. In other words, you can fly on a nonstop flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and then exit by ferry from Shekou port in Shenzhen to Macau. In order to do that you will have to book a ferry ticket through TurboJet ferry website in advance, print out the ticket and have it at hand. Also, the requirement is that you stay within Guangdong province a minute longer than 24 hours to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Those 144 hours are valid for entire Guangdong province.

If the above is too complicated, probably the only solution is to enter Shenzhen on 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival at one of three designated border crossings and then to exit to Macau by ferry from Shekou port. The main drawback here is relatively high price for this VOA for UK citizens since it is 834 CNY based on reciprocity. Probably the most convenient way to enter Shenzhen is by taking a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou port, but you can also use Lo Wu (Luohu) border crossing by taking a local train until the crossing and then to cross it on foot. However, you should be aware of the opening hours of visa offices there: 09:00 - 16:30.

Through trains (high speed) are not eligible way to accomplish this journey.
