About:China Visa on Arrival

Entering mainland China from Hainan

So if I obtain a VOA in Hainan as an Australian, can I fly or ferry over to mainland China and go to several cities for up to 30 days?

Actually, Hainan VOA is not yet functional, so you cannot do that, unfortunately. However, you are allowed to enjoy Hainan 30-Day Visa-Free Access, but this visa free access allows you to stay just within Hainan province and your flights to and from Hainan are not allowed to have landings within mainland China.
