About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Inquiry on Visa Requirements for Shanghai Layover

Hey, I am planning to fly from Frankfurt to Thailand with a layover in Shanghai. I have a few questions regarding the visa requirements.
Firstly, as a German citizen, do I need to apply for a 24-hour free transit visa for my stopover in Shanghai, or can I travel through Shanghai without specific visa documents?

Additionally, I am unsure about the visa requirements for my mother, who resides in Germany but holds Peruvian citizenship. Does she need a visa for the layover in Shanghai? I have come across conflicting information regarding the necessity of a visa for Peruvian citizens.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide information on the exact visa requirements for my Shanghai layover. If necessary, I would like to know how and where to apply for the transit visa and the required documentation.

Thank you in advance for your assistance :)

I just wanted to add that my layover in Shanghai is 10 hours. I believe that, as a German citizen, I may be able to leave the airport. Unfortunately, I am not sure about my mother, who holds Peruvian citizenship.

Actually, both of you do not need any kind of visa because you can visit and transit China absolutely visa free and your Peruvian mother will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. Please, note, this is not 24 hour free transit visa, but 24 visa free transit or in other words, there is no visa at all of any kind.

This is all very simple. You will not say anything at check-in in Frankfurt, but you will tell for your mother that she will travel to Thailand visa Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short check, you will be both in the plane. Upon arrival in Shanghai, you will approach visa free transit counter (desk) where your mother will apply for a temporary entry permit. This permit is necessary to be allowed to exit the airport. This application is for free. You do not need that permit. After the permit is granted, you will proceed to the immigration and then exit the airport to shortly explore Shanghai. Basically, this is it.
