About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240 Hour Visa-Free Transit Inquiry

I am planning a trip to China and am wondering if this itinerary fits the requirements for the 240 hour visa-free transit. I'm mostly concerned about the exiting flight from China which has a short connecting layover in Shanghai staying in the airport before flying to Taiwan. Does this work?

Flight to China:
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) >
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport(CKG)

Flight leaving China (connecting flight through Shanghai):
Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) >
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG - 2.5 hour layover in airport) >
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)

Yes, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit because your both immediate points (before and after mainland China) are located in two different eligible territories - Hong Kong and Taiwan.

During your stay / travel in mainland China you have right to move within the country and consequently your layover in Shanghai is absolutely acceptable. Here I would like to inform you that exit immigration procedures will be performed in Shanghai and not in Xi'an because the Chinese rules always demand that the formalities are performed at the last point before the actual exit from the country (mainland China). Have a nice visit to China.
