Luka, if you a citizen of Netherlands, they I inform you that you do not any kind of visa to transit, stay and explore China absolutely visa free. This is a decision that is in force starting from December 1 for Netherlands and additional 4 EU countries. If you are not a citizen of Netherlands, and if your entire transit time in Shanghai is shorter than 24 hours, you also do not need a visa because you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. If you want to exit the airport during your layover, you will approach the transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit upon your landing in Shanghai. This application is for free and all you need is your onward flight ticket.
