About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Macau border to Guangzhou airport

If I am in Macau and I want to fly from Guangzhou to Bangkok, will China allow me (USA passport) to obtain the 24 hour visa at the Zhuhai border and then take the train to Guangzhou Airport for a departure on the same day to Bangkok? Do the land borders provide the 24 hour visas, or only obtain at airports?

No, unfortunately, this is not possible because Zhuhai visa is strictly territory limited to Zhuhai city limits.

Your only alternative is to reach Hong Kong airport, take a direct flight to Guangzhou and from Guangzhou a flight to a third country, in your case to Thailand (Bangkok). If you do this, you can even enjoy 144 hour visa free transit in entire Guangdong province, but you really have to flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. Unfortunately, there is no flight from Macau to Guangzhou...
