With 5 day Shenzhen Visa - going back to Germany via Beijing airport

Hello,

I plan to go to Shenzhen (from Hong Kong) and plan to get the 5-day visa on arrival for German citizens like me.

After a few days in Shenzhen, I would like to return to Germany. The return flight that I find online would fly back to Germany but would fly via Beijing (with a 3 hours layover). My question is whether this would be a problem with my 5 day Shenzhen visa (and whether I have to directly leave the country from Shenzhen or whether its fine to have a layover in Beijing if I do not leave the airport).

Thanks a lot

Yes, that would be a problem because you are not allowed to take flights from Shenzhen, when in the status of 5 days visa on arrival, that have additional landing within mainland China. You have to be aware that all the flights within any two points within mainland China are all domestic, so that would be a breach of rules of this particular visa that allows to its holder just a travels within Shenzhen city limits.

Thanks,

But alternatively a flight from HK back to Germany over Beijing would be possible?

Yes, you are correct on that. If you fly Hong Kong - Beijing - Europe, you can even enjoy 144 hour visa free transit in wider Beijing area.
