About:China Train

Is the border between China and Mongolia open?

I would like to take the K3 train from Beijing via Mongolia into Irkutsk. I'm not sure if the Chinese border is currently open for passing through Mongolia.

The train K3 has not resumed yet, but Chinese border is currently open for passing through Mongolia and trains 685/686 are running between Erlian of China and Ulan Bator.

You may need to buy the ticket at the station. From Beijing to Erlian, there is no direct train and you need to transfer to Hohhot.

Thank you for all the answer. Is it possible to buy ticket for 685/686 train in advance? Or do I have to buy it at Erlian station on the day that I want to travel? And could you advice me how to travel from Beijing to Erlian.
