About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Guangzhou 144 hour question

Hi, US Citizen coming in from Vientiane (Laos) to CAN (Guangzhou airport) -> Seoul, I would like to spend 2 days in Guangzhou exploring local sites before moving on to Seoul and depart for the US. US citizens are visa exempt for visiting South Korea. Any issues with this itinerary? Would Laos immigration allow me to board without Chinese visa?

Laos - China - Seoul on a USA passport is clearly a valid itinerary for 144 hour transit without visa. Laos immigration won't care where you're going next. You will need to present your confirmed onward ticket (CAN - SEL) to the airline when you check-in at Vientiane and possibly at boarding too. Tell them you are using "transit without visa".
