About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

23 hour lay over in Beijing

Hello :)

Thank you for all this great Info. I was wondering if you could assist.

2 adults and a 6 year old child will be visiting Thailand we have a South African passport but live in New Zealand. On our return flight we are at the PEK airport for 23 hours! would we be able to apply for a 24 hour transit free visa at the airport when we land. The airline has given us a free hotel but it is located outside of the airport.

Thanks so much :)

The first and the most important detail is that your entire transit time, from your scheduled arrival until your scheduled departure is shorter than 24 hours. So, 23 hours is fine and you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa.

To be able to exit the airport and to have a decent sleep, you will approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter upon your landing. There you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your onward flight as well as your accommodation booking confirmation and in your case a hotel booking by an airline. After a short review of your documents, you will be granted a temporary entry permit and will be allowed to exit the airport to have a stroll in Beijing as well as to stay and rest in the hotel.
