About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Singapore - Shanghai - Bangkok

I am planning a trip from Singapore to Shanghai and from Shanghai to Bangkok. There is a flight from Singapore to Shanghai via Xiamen. That means that I will have to transit at Xiamen. Is the transit time at Xiamen included in the 144 hour visa free transit time ? And I need to clear immigration at Xiamen before boarding another domestic flight from Xiamen to Shanghai ? Does it complicate matters ?

Yes, it really complicates matters because to travel with the itinerary:

Singapore - Xiamen - Shanghai - Bangkok

You would need a Chinese transit visa in advance. The only way to retain this itinerary and to travel visa free is if you can accomplish the entire route, from your scheduled landing in Xiamen, until your scheduled departure from Shanghai within 24 hours and not even a minute longer than 24 hours.

It is important to understand that for 144 hour visa free transit the only detail that really matters is that immediate points before and after your mainland Chinese destination have to be in two different foreign countries or eligible territories (eligible territories: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau).
