About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Seoul - Beijing - Shanghai - Xiamen - France. Can we combine the 144h visa?

Hello,

I am a French citizen traveling in Asia. My flight back to France is from Xiamen. I guess I can apply for a 144h visa for Xiamen to visit the city, but I was wondering if I can fly from Seoul to Beijing (ask there for the 144h visa), then to Shanghai (ask there for the same visa), and finally to Xiamen where I ask for an other 144h visa (I can also add a detour to Hong-Kong if it's necessary to "reset" this type of visa: Seoul - Beijing - Hong-Kong - Xiamen).

Thank you !

The very basic of 144 hour visa free transit rule is that the immediate points before and after your mainland Chinese destination have two be in two different countries or eligible Chinese provinces: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau that act as third countries for this purpose.

In other words, if you travel from Seoul to Beijin, your next point has to be in a differen country or in three mentioned Chinese provinces. So, an itinerary:

Seoul - Beijing - Shanghai

Immediately disqualify you from 144 hour visa free transit eligibility.

I can see that you have properly understood this rule and indeed, an itinerary:

Seoul - Beijing - Hong Kong (or Taipei because it might be cheaper) - Xiamen - Europe

Is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in both Beijing and Xiamen. You can combine this option even to encompass Shanghai:

Seoul - Beijing - Taipei - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Xiamen - Europe

I know, this brings additional expenses, but the eligibility for 144 hour visa free transit is granted.

Enjoy your trip :)
