If you have presented your itinerary in its entirety you will be definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. It is important to use correct terminology because this is not a 240 hour visa, but 240 hour visa free transit, so there is no visa of any kind at all. It is extremely important to understand that your immediate points before and after mainland China have to be in two different countries. So, if your itinerary is US - mainland China - South Korea, this is fine, but if you travel US - South Korea (regardless of the nature and the length of your layover here) - mainland China - South Korea, then your itinerary is not eligible. Please, just have in mind this aspect where your immediate points (in literal sense of this phrase) have to be really in two different countries or eligible territories if you plan to use Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau. Have a nice visit to China.
