In my opinion, by far the best option is to take a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou port in Shenzhen. It seems that all other ports with attached visa offices experience huge pressure and hours long waiting times. Quite the contrary this is something that should not be the case at visa office in Shekou. However, keep in mind the opening hours in Shekou port: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.

Is there a morning & afternoon quota at Shekou port?

Any experience using Huanggang port? Apparently there's a direct bus from WanChai to Huanggang port.

It is said that they may have a day quota and it is recommended to queue as early as possible. I heard that Huanggang is really busy. It will be highly appreciate if you can give some feedbacks.

Huanggang and Luohu are indeed very busy, so this is the reason why did I started to suggest taking a ferry to Shekou port. Less people will look after the ferry compared to overland border crossings, so I still recommend taking a ferry to Shekou port.

As far as I know, Shekou port does not have a day quota, although this situation, when the people discover this option with a ferry, could change practically overnight.
