from taipei to bangkok via shanghai

Question

I hold Italian passport. Need to fly from Taipei to Bangkok and want to stay less than 72 hours in Shanghai. Eligible for 72 hrs free visa? When in Shanghai can go by car to visit Nanjing? Then would go back to Shanghai and depart from there to Bangkok. Is it a problem, if from Bangkok need to fly back to Taipei?

Antonio, if your flight route is Taipei - Shanghai - Bangkok and you do not have any additional landing within Mainland China, you are eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai area.

Actually, he can because when arriving in Shangahi, he is free to visit any part of Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zheijan provinces without any limit. Since Nanjing is within Jiangsu province, he can travel and stay there and after that return back to Shanghai. Also, it is not a problem to travel back from Bangkok to taipei.
