Does Gung Hay Fat Choi

First, what is the proper spelling of Gung Hay Fat Choi and does it correlate with Lunar New year, Chinese New Year etc or is that a slight ?

Every country have different dialect and accent for Chinese language. Mine are spelled like Gong Xi Fa Chai. I was told it just mean congratulations for your fortune. So just greet with Gong Xi is already appropriate for most of the time

theres two ways of saying it, the one the original comment typed was the cantonese version, the one u put is the mandarin version
